Fairview Range in Hibbing has embarked on extensive expansion and renovation plans for growing services and expanding facilities to enhance the delivery of health care to the NE Minnesota communities we serve. The opening of the Patient & Family Waiting Area completes the final phase of the Ambulatory Care Center.
Fairview University Medical Center - Mesabi will be opening the new Patient & Family Waiting Area on December 5, 2011. With the development of Patient and Family-Centered Care, the new waiting area will create a seamless and timely experience for our patients and families. The Patient & Family Waiting Area includes:
- An information desk and guest services desk
- Admitting and registration for outpatient services (Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Lab, Disease Management, Breast Center)
- Patient Financial Services
- Waiting and vending area
- Patient tracking system to communicate to families as to where the patients are, how they are progressing in their care, and when the family can join them again
- A relaxing, modern atmosphere that is sure to keep our patients and their families comfortable
Join us for an open house and refreshments on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 3pm-5pm to celebrate the opening of the new Patient & Family Waiting Area, along with the new patient tracking system, at Fairview University Medical Center - Mesabi. Please use the North Entrance.

Fairview Range proudly announces the opening of its brand new Urgent Care Center, conveniently located at Fairview University Medical Center- Mesabi in Hibbing.
Located adjacent to the Emergency Department at Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi, the new Urgent Care Center will be open seven days a week, Monday-Friday 11am-8pm Weekends and Holidays 8am-5pm.
Patients are encouraged to use the north entrance off 34th Avenue East (the same entrance as the Emergency Department at Fairview University Medical Center - Mesabi).
The Urgent Care Center is typically visited to treat minor illnesses or injuries such as a twisted ankle, sore throat, ear infection, minor burns, cuts and bruises.
If your primary care provider is unavailable for same day access, the Urgent Care Center will be happy to serve you during available hours.

Fairview Range Welcomes New Surgeon - Sandra Hanson, MD, FACS
Fairview Range welcomes general surgeon, Sandra Hanson, MD, FACS to its full-time medical staff.
Dr. Hanson’s hometown is Waukesha, Wisconsin. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. She received her Doctorate in Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota.
After medical school, Dr. Hanson was selected to train at the University of Minnesota for eight years for surgery training, and then moved to Duluth to begin her professional practice. In Duluth, Dr. Hanson became a clinical professor and head of surgery teaching at the University of Minnesota while also leading a private practice in general surgery. She also has experience as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, as well as building a reputable surgery practice from the ground up in Oregon.
Dr. Hanson is now practicing as a full-time general surgeon at Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi and seeing patients at Fairview Mesaba Clinic - Hibbing. Most recently she has been practicing at Lakewood Health System in Staples, Minnesota where she practiced general and laparoscopic surgery and served as the Co-director of the Level III Trauma Program.
She is experienced in general, laparoscopic, and oncologic surgery and specializes in the surgical treatment of breast cancer. She is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and American Society of Breast Surgeons.
Although she puts in 110 percent during the day at work, she has found a true passion away from work too. In her free time, Dr. Hanson raises, trains, breeds, and sells quarter horses of all disciplines. She says that “there’s something good about a horse for your soul.” Please join us in welcoming Dr. Hanson to our community!

Announcing Three Additions to Fairview Mesaba Clinics
Fairview Mesaba Clinics welcomes Dr. Mary Schinkel and Dr. Rebecca Schultz to Mesaba Clinic - Hibbing and Dr. Craig Vickstrom to Mesaba Clinic - Mt. Iron.
Dr. Schinkel joins Dr. Kristin Fredrickson and Physician Assistant Tara Eskelson in the ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) Department at Mesaba Clinic - Hibbing. She received her Osteopathic Medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and completed her General Surgery Internship and Otorhinolaryngology/Facial Plastic Surgery Residency at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Schultz joins Dr. Kevin Krause in the Pediatrics Department at Mesaba Clinic - Hibbing. She received her Doctorate in Medicine degree from the University of Iowa and completed her Pediatric Residency training at the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa as well. Most recently Dr. Schultz has been working at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse, Michigan as a staff physician.
Dr. Vickstrom joins Dr. Teresa St. George and Nurse Practitioner Anne Flaim as a Family Practice physician at Mesaba Clinic - Mt. Iron. He received his Doctorate in Medicine degree from the University of Iowa and completed his Residency at the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Iowa as well. Most recently Dr. Vickstrom has been working at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse, Michigan as Chief of Staff.
