Anticoagulation Clinic at University Medical Center-Mesabi

Coumadin Clinic

The Coumadin (Anticoagulation) Clinic is designed to assist our patients with a safer, more efficient way to manage their Coumadin (warfarin) dosing, understand the reasons for the medication, the potential complications and to reduce the likelihood of experiencing blood clots.

The Coumadin (warfarin) Clinic utilizes a finger-stick method of analysis that eliminates the need for uncomfortable blood draws and delayed results. The INR/Protime result is available within two minutes and the adjustment of dosage is done immediately.

A Registered Nurse specially trained in anticoagulation therapy manages your treatment as well as reviews lab reports, your current medications and your medical condition. The nurse also works in close conjunction with your health care provider. The Coumadin Clinic uses a computer program with the most updated information to ensure safe and accurate Coumadin/warfarin dosing.
