A COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP Memorial Blood Centers is the result of a shared vision of Fairview University Medical Center - Mesabi (FUMC) and Memorial Blood Centers to provide lifesaving blood to patients safely and efficiently.
With this partnership, the community of Hibbing joins the greater Arrowhead Region in giving the "gift of life" to patients in our local hospitals.
Blood donors can donate at Memorial Blood Centers, located at Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi at 750 East 34th Street, Hibbing, or a state-of-the-art Bloodmobile that travels to local businesses, churches, schools and community organizations for blood drives. We make it more convenient for donors to save a life.
90% of the U.S. population will need a transfusion for themselves or an immediate family member at some time in their lives. Less that 5% of the U.S. population donates blood. In Minnesota, 6% of the population donates.
"Volunteer blood donors are very special. They give more that their time or their money. They give the gift of life - the contribution that has no substitute." Thomas Uncini, M.D. FUMC Medical Director Laboratory Services Back To Top

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DONATE? Once you arrive at Memorial Blood Centers, a health professional will ask you confidential questions about your medical history. You'll receive a "mini-physical" - temperature, pulse, hemoglobin (iron level), and blood pressure check. You'll then be seated comfortably in a donation station. Donating blood takes only 10-15 minutes and it's relatively painless. You cannot contract any infectious diseases because only sterile, disposable needles are used. All needles are discarded after one use. After donating, you'll be encouraged to take a refreshment break, where you'll be served juice, coffee and cookies while you visit with other donors. That's all there is to it! Your unit of blood will be tested for blood type, antibody screen and infectious diseases as required by blood banking regulations.
Eligible doors can donate blood every 56 days.Since each donated unity can be separated into components, a single donor can help up to three patients. Back To Top
