Star Hospice was organized in 1984 as a licensed hospice
provider. In 2003 North Star Hospice affiliated with Fairview
Range Regional Health Service to position the agency to seek Medicare
Hospice Certification. Back To Top WHAT IS HOSPICE? Hospice
is a special program designed to enhance the quality of life in people
whose life expectancy is limited. Our goal is to provide
aggressive comfort care to help manage symptoms and maximize comfort
and quality of life. Back To Top WHO IS ELIGIBLE? A
patient comes into the hospice program with the approval of his/her
physician and at the request of the patient and family. The program is
available to anyone in Hibbing/Chisholm, International Falls and surrounding areas.
Anyone may offer a referral to hospice including family, friend, clergy
or physician. The illness must be diagnosed as terminal and a competent
person must agree to be the primary care provider. Back To Top WHY HOSPICE? Experiencing
terminal illness as a patient or as a patient's family member is
difficult and traumatic. There are intense feelings, stresses and
needs. Hospice care emphasizes life and living for the patient and
their family during the patient's remaining days of life by providing
security, comfort, caring, love and sharing. Back To Top HOSPICE TEAM Our
interdisciplinary team includes nurses, social workers, physicians,
home health aides, chaplain, physical therapists and volunteers. Hospice services include: - Holistic care including physical, emotional, spirtual, financial, psychological, social and intellectual.
- Focusing on comfort care rather than agressive treatment.
- Specializing in pain management
- Offering grief support during participation in the hospice program and for a period of bereavement.
VOLUNTEERS Volunteers
are an integral part of the hospice team. They help in a variety of
ways to give support to the patient, family and the team. Volunteers
offer support by listening and companionship, help in identifying the
needs of the patient and family, grocery shopping or relieving the
family members. Volunteer training is required and provided for by
North Star Hospice at no cost. If you are interested in becoming a
volunteer please give us a call. Back To Top COMMUNITY SERVICE AVAILABLE - Assistance in advanced care directives
